On 12/1/2017 at approximately 0330 hours, Officers Stephanie Colon and Brian McMahon responded to Union Township PD to take custody of a Mr. Paul Aguilar, who was under arrest on an active Verona warrant. Aguilar was then transported to the Essex County Jail and turned over to jail staff.
On 12/2/2017 Off. Joseph Pami was dispatched to Franklin Street on a report of property damage. Upon arrival, Off. Pami met with a resident who stated that he noticed that the sewage line in his house backed up causing water damage to the rug in his basement. There did not appear to be any other damage to the home or any other property and DPW was contacted and made aware of the incident. The value of damage is unknown at this time.
On 12/3/2017 at 2:47 a.m. Off. Robert Maguire arrested Mr. Salme Santiago of Nutley for driving while intoxicated. Mr. Santiago was observed driving carelessly on Pompton Ave. When stopped, Mr. Santiago exhibited signs of intoxication and failed Standard Field Sobriety Tests that were administered by Off. Maguire. Mr. Santiago was placed under arrest and transported to police headquarters for processing. After processing, Mr. Santiago was issued several summonses and released to a family member.
On 12/5/2017 Off. Giovanni DeSomma took a fraud report from a resident. The resident reported he applied for a new department store credit card with an electronic chip. The resident further stated that he never received the card, however, he did receive a bill for charges exceeding $1,600. The resident had no knowledge of the charges to the new card and was advised to cancel the credit card and was provided with information on identity theft.
On 12/7/2017 Off. Joseph Pami responded to a Linden Ave. residence to take a report of stolen property. The resident reports that two packages that were left on the front porch were taken. Surrounding video surveillance showed a dark colored Nissan SUV pull up in front of the residence at approximately 1:20 p.m. The operator then exited the vehicle and approached the doorstep where she took two packages and then returned back to her vehicle with the packages. The suspect is a black female wearing a dark colored knit hat, black jacket, and a black and white scarf. A check of the surrounding area was negative.
On 12/9/2017 Off. William Frazee took a report of a burglary to a motor vehicle. A resident of Belleclaire Place reported that sometime between December 8th and December 9th unknown persons(s) entered her unlocked BMW and stole several items from the center console. The approximate value of the stolen items is $112.
On 12/9/2017 Off. Edward Ruff took a report of a burglary to a motor vehicle. A Sunset Avenue resident reported that a friend’s unlocked Honda was entered by an unknown person(s) sometime on December 8th. The resident reported that her friends’ wallet along with some cash and a box cutter were stolen from the vehicle.
On 12/9/2017 Off. William Frazee took a report of a burglary to a motor vehicle. A resident of Belleclaire Place reported that sometime between December 8th and December 9th unknown person(s) entered his unlocked Honda Pilot and rifled through the car. The resident reports that nothing appeared to be taken from the vehicle at this time.
Residents are reminded to keep their cars locked at all times and to remove any valuable items from the car when the vehicle is left unattended.
On 12/13/2017 Off. Michael Barone responded to a Summit Road residence on a report of a forced burglary to a house. Upon arrival Off. Barone spoke to a neighbor who stated that when he went to check on his neighbor’s house he discovered that the garage door was open and the rear door to the house was forced open. A check of the interior of the house revealed that unknown person(s) opened and ransacked several dresser drawers. A Mercedes Benz was reported missing and the car was entered into the National Crime Information Center computer data base as stolen. The scene was turned over to the Detective Bureau and the investigation is ongoing.
