Verona High School’s new swim team took to the pool against Montclair High School last night and came away with key wins for two team members in the longest freestyle races.
Killian Blitz, a freshman, came in first in the boys 500 free with a time of 5.19.65, just a breath ahead of the second-place finisher who had a 5.20.44 time. The 500 free is the longest event in individual swimming, consisting of 20 lengths of a 25-yard pool.

Then it was time for the girls 500 free. Jenna Gabbe, a sophomore, took that race with a time of 6:40.25. Kelly Nulty, a freshman, had the first win for VHS swim at the meet, which was held at Montclair State University. She snagged first place in the 100 meter butterfly.
The Montclair High School girls outscored Verona’s girls 126-41. MHS boys won their meet over Verona 124-39.
Verona Swim’s boys team travels to Seton Hall Prep for a meet today at 4 p.m.
