The Verona Eagles A team is headed to a championship showdown against Fairfield after it beat Florham Park/East Hanover 19-0 on Sunday afternoon.
Nick Socci caught a long ball from Cale Zebrowski for the A team’s first score, and it was followed by two TDs from James Haveron, the second of which was a 50-yard run. The A team’s offensive dominated at the line of scrimmage, even though they were up against larger opponents. The defense sacked the Florham Park/East Hanover quarterback four times causing two fumbles and an interception by Derek Bernadino. The win moved the A team’s record to 8-0-1.
The “Super Bowl” championship game will be played at James Caldwell High School on Sunday, November 19, with kick-off likely to be 11 a.m.
The Verona Eagles program, which includes both youth football and cheerleading, played its inaugural season in 1966. Eagles teams participate in the 12-team West Essex Junior Football League. The A team is comprised of seventh- and eighth-grade students.
