Scenes of a season

The Verona High School boys soccer team played its final game of the 2017 season on Tuesday in the first round of the NJSIAA North 1, Group 1 tournament.

Verona lost to the 6-seed Emerson Boro Cavos by a score of 1-0. The lone goal of the game was scored early in the first half by an Emerson midfielder who took advantage of a loose ball in front of the net. After that, both stepped up until the final whistle. The Hillbillies finished the season with a record of 6-9-2.

Next season, Verona will try to expand on the positives of this season, returning 16 varsity players from this year. Some of these players will have to step up in a goal scoring role next year though, because fourteen of Verona’s goals were scored by seniors. Good luck to the seniors in their future endeavors.
