Verona Kids Rock brought their community service to senior citizens this weekend. The group, which was formed by one Verona elementary school student and her mom 18 months ago, now includes more than 50 Verona children who are finding their own way into community service projects. They’ve served food at shelters, held a rally for safe biking, collected supplies for a backpack supply drive and more.
This time, Verona Kids Rock brought trick-or-treating to the residents of Waterview Center to bring the seniors there back into some fond childhood moments. Waterview, which is located in Cedar Grove, provides short-stay rehabilitation care, respite care and long-term care to the elderly and disabled.
These kids showed up at Waterview in a variety of Halloween costumes and provided a bit of entertainment. “The residents were smiling, dancing from their wheelchairs, it was a heartwarming memorable experience,” says Dina Lilly, the parent who heads Verona Kids Rock.
The group ended their visit by providing each resident with treat and a pumpkin, effectively bringing a pumpkin patch indoors.
