Who’s got the best high school volleyball team in New Jersey? We’re about to find out.
The New Jersey Interscholastic Athletic Association (NJSIAA) released its seeding for the state tournaments yesterday and Verona High School’s girls volleyball team is the top seed in Group 1.
The state games, also known as sectionals, start on Monday, October 30, but Verona’s first game will be on Tuesday, October 31 against the number 32 seed, Newark’s Malcolm X Shabazz High School. Bogota High School, Verona’s nemesis from last year’s state championship game, is the number 2 seed this year. (You can view the full bracket here.)
The Lady Hillbillies have been making steady progress through the bracket for the Essex County Tournament, where they are also the number 1 seed. Verona defeated Columbia High School 25-5, 25-9 in round three and West Orange High School 25-12, 25-13 in the quarterfinals. The ECT semifinals are tonight at Livingston High School, with Verona taking on number 4 seed Caldwell High School. The start time will be close to 6 p.m.
