YMCAIt is nationally recognized that middle schoolers, particularly in the 7th grade, need positive role models, recreation and activities to help them during this critical changing time in their lives. The YMCA of Montclair supports this widely held belief, which is why they offer a free program to 7th graders attending schools in the Y’s service area of Bloomfield, Cedar Grove, Clifton, Glen Ridge, Montclair and Verona.

Thanks to the support of donors in the community, up to 200 7th graders enjoy this program each year, which includes a free membership to the Y on a first-come, first-served basis.

The program offers a safe, welcoming place for these kids where they can reach their full potential through fitness; swimming; friendships; working with role models; and participating in youth nights, Leaders Club and skills workshops designed just for them. With their year-long memberships, these 7th graders have access to the Y’s facilities and its vast array of programs that open their eyes to a lifestyle of health and wellness.

This year, the Y is also offering a special discounted membership rate to families of this program’s participants to encourage them to increase not only their own fitness and fun, but their family time together!

To participate in the program, the 7th grader and a parent/guardian are required to attend an orientation session and complete and submit an orientation/application packet. 7th graders will also be required to show “proof of grade” and participate in a swim evaluation. More details will be given at orientation. Memberships are valid October-August.

Orientation sessions are on various days and times in September. Visit http://bit.ly/2i04TLW to sign up to attend an orientation session.

Orientation meetings are held in the YMCA of Montclair’s Park Street Branch, 25 Park Street, Montclair.
