Emergency Blood Drive

There is a shortage of blood supplies this summer so the Verona Rescue Squad is holding a Community Blood Drive on Friday, August 4, from 3 to 7 p.m.

The blood drive will be held at the Verona Community Center, 880 Bloomfield Avenue, and you can schedule an appointment by phone or online. You can make an appointment for whole blood donation or so-called double red, which is also known as “power red”. In this kind of donation, a special machine is used to help you safely donate two units of red blood cells in one session.

To schedule an appointment by phone, please contact the Community Blood Services at (201) 251-3703.

To schedule your own appointment online, please go to this website.

To donate blood, you must be in good general health and feeling well, at least 17 years old, and weigh at least 110 pounds. You can donate whole blood every 56 days and make a double red or power red donation every 112 days. There is more information on blood donation rules on the American Red Cross website.

For more information, contact Tom Jung of the Verona Rescue Squad at 973-953-3667.
