On May 22, 2017, the World Language Honor Society Induction Ceremony was held in the Verona High School Learning Commons. To be eligible, students must excel in the study of the language of their choice (Mandarin, French or Spanish) plus show interest and commitment by pursuing their study of the language for at least one more year at the honors level.
The following students were inducted into the Chinese Honor Society: Liliana Benanchietti, Julia Burke, Megan Forrest, Kayla Golebieski, Elizabeth Hensal, Abigail Nochimson, Emma Yee and Elyssia Yung.
Inductees of the Société Honoraire de Français included Katherine Ashley, Erik Boström, Isabelle Buneo, Kelly Esposito, Margaret Evans, Gillian Lamb, Maeve McGinley, Christopher Robinson and Nicole Volpe.
The Sociedad Honoraria Hispanica welcomed Emily Anderson, Maria Celentano, Eric Frey, Rebecca Marcillo-Gómez, Ryan McKeown, David Motley, Rebecca Seubert, Elise Sidali and Elyssia Yung.
As part of the celebration Julia Cambreleng, Francesca Cortese, Sean DeCandia, C.J. Lavery and Julianna Tuorto, all members of the Chinese Honor Society, demonstrated Tai Chi. Rachelle Smith and Ava Vasalani, members of the French Honor Society, sang a traditional 16th century French song a capella. Members of the Spanish Honor Society closed the ceremony with Daniela Trujillo and Colin Vega singing “Colgando en tus Manos” by Carlos Baute and Marta Sánchez, accompanied by percussionists Owen Yarmo-Gray, Michael Petillo and Joe Priori.
