Jack Fatatis caught the first fish among the boys

Essex County held its annual Fishing Derby in Verona Park on Thursday, May 18, and five young Veronans came away big winners.

Jack Fatatis caught the first fish in the boys’ category, hooking his fish at 6:02 p.m. Aidan Azarowicz caught the most fish in the boys’ age 11-15 category, reeling in 14 fish. Cole Reynolds caught the most fish in the boys’ age 0-5 category, with seven fish to his credit. Grace Fatatis’ three fish earned her the award for the most fish caught in the girls’ age 6-10 category, while Lucy Hogan caught the most fish in the girls’ age 11-15, a total of seven fish.

Deputy Parks Director Kate Hartwyk presented the awards plaques to each of the winners.
