The Verona Baseball & Softball League is sponsoring a Pitch, Hit & Run competition for children ages seven to 14 on Friday, May 5. All eligible children will compete in three different skills challenges with the champions for each individual skill and an all-around champion from each division advancing to the sectional competition, which will be held on Saturday May 13 in Passaic. Winners of that will move on to a team championship in June and national finals, which will be held during Major League Baseball’s All Star Week in July.
The local May 5 competition will be held at Liberty Field behind the Verona Community Center, from 6 to 10 p.m. Participants may compete in only one age division, which is determined by the child’s age as of July 17, 2017.
To read all the competition rules and to register, go to VBSL’s website. Participants should bring a baseball or softball bat to use for the hitting portion of the skills events. VBSL will provide all other equipment. No metal cleats are allowed.
