Edward “Ted” Giblin: As the father of two young children, I am particularly concerned with speeding and other traffic law violations that I routinely witness in my Forest Avenue neighborhood. Beyond increased police enforcement, I feel that we can encourage better driving protocol relatively inexpensively by installing “blinking” stop signs at the busier intersections. In addition, teenagers and adults need to be educated about the dangers and devastating consequences of texting and distracted driving.
Verona is unique in that most of our major traffic arteries are Essex County roads. On a typical weekday afternoon, Bloomfield Avenue is a traffic logjam. Planned construction of 460 housing units in neighboring Cedar Grove will only exacerbate this serious problem. We need to work proactively with our County officials to help alleviate these concerns and to make our County roads safer for drivers as well as pedestrians.
