Louis BellangerLouis Bellanger (above, center) served on the Verona Fire Department for more than 30 years before retiring to Berkeley Township, N.J. When he heard that John McMurtrie, a former colleague on the VFD, had passed away, he wanted to attend the service but needed assistance.

The Manitou Park Volunteer Fire Department, which serves the area where Bellanger now lives, sprang into action to make sure he could pay his respects while enjoying Firefighter Belanger’s stories of his time on the department while in the process. Manitou’s Lieutenant Applegate and Firefighter Sonnenfeld assisted with this assignment.
