KateAshley2Kate Ashley closed out her winter track season with an incredible performance in the 800m run at the Meet of Champions on Sunday. She won her heat in 2:19.65, shaving off three seconds from her previous best the week before. According to state ranking on NJ MileSplit, Ashley’s time on Sunday was the fastest 800m run this winter by a New Jersey high school sophomore.

Ashley finished 17th overall in the state in the 800m out of a large pool of runners: More than 400 New Jersey high schools compete in winter track and each usually has a number of 800m runners. VHS Coach Gene Leporati is proud of Ashley’s efforts and the teammates who aided her win. “I would also like to thank her teammates Brianna Rigney and Julia DiGeronimo,” he said, “who trained with her all week and supported her at the Meet of Champions.”
