Verona Battles To Beat North 13th Street

vbasketballsThe Verona High School boys basketball team improved its record to 5-2 on Thursday with a 59-46 win over North 13th Street.

Despite the convincing final score, the Hillbillies had to fight to pull out the win up until the last few minutes. North 13th played aggressive defense throughout the game but Verona was able to convert on closely contested shots to maintain the lead the whole game.

The Hillbillies also played swarming defense, holding the Cougars to seven points in the second quarter and only 20 in the first half. North 13th did the cut the lead down to six in the third quarter but Verona erased it to make the score 43-29 at the end of the third.

Travis Jocelyn led the scoring with 16, Joey Zecchino had 13 and Matt Zaccone chipped in 10. Verona’s next game will be away against Millburn on Tuesday, January 10, at 4 p.m.
