This weekend’s Verona real estate listings includes one of Verona’s oldest houses, a house that is also among its most historic. The house at 10 Elmwood Road was built in 1890 for the family of Fillmore Condit, which donated the land for Everett Field after their eldest son, Everett, died in 1911.

Condit was a self-made man who ran a meat market in Newark and patented a refrigerator door fastener. In 1881, he was so prosperous that he began buying and developing land in Verona. The Condit tract came to encompass much of the land between Bloomfield and Claremont avenues from Elmwood Road to Montclair Avenue.

Condit and his wife didn’t live in Verona all that long. He got involved in politics, and moved first to Essex Fells before leaving New Jersey for California, where became the mayor of Long Beach. Sometime after he left, when cars were rising in popularity in Verona, an auto shop was built on what had been his front lawn, and his house was converted from single-family to multi-family use, which is how it is listed now. The listing doesn’t show any interior photos, so we don’t know how much of the original woodwork, fireplaces and interior layout remains.

Here’s what else is happening in Verona real estate this weekend, from lowest priced to highest in each category:
