Police Seek Witnesses To Fatal Hit-And-Run

Murray and Verona Police Chief Mitchell Stern are asking for the public’s help in identifying people who may have been witnesses to the June 24 hit-and-run that that claimed the life of Verona sign maker Matthew BeneduceMcGrath.

BeneduceMcGrath, 59, was crossing Bloomfield Avenue from south to north near Hillcrest when he was hit at about 9:30 p.m. He was transported to University Hospital in Newark, where he was pronounced dead at 9:58 p.m.

The authorities have released several photos from the scene, and have marked potential witnesses with a red arrow. Anyone with information is asked to contact the Essex County Prosecutor’s Office Homicide/Major Crimes Task Force tips line at 1-877-TIPS-4EC or 1-877-847-7432.
