Parking Restrictions, Shuttles For Fireworks

Fireworks2Verona’s Fourth of July fireworks will once again be several days ahead of the Fourth, but everything else about them is different this year.

The fireworks will be on Thursday, June 30, and the weather looks to be good. But because of the construction at Verona High School, they will be held at the fields above the Verona Community Center. That means changes to parking and seating.

On parking, town officials are trying to encourage fireworks fans to either walk to the VCC or take a free shuttle service. You can catch a shuttle ride at either Town Hall or the Verona Pool lot. The shuttles will begin running at 6:30 p.m. and will run as needed. The shuttles will take you back to your car after the fireworks are over.

If you want to use your own car, parking will also be available in the designated areas at 799 Bloomfield Avenue, the medical office building east of the VCC,  and 825 Bloomfield Avenue, another commercial lot east of the VCC. Both of these lots are located on the south side of Bloomfield Avenue, so you will need to cross at the Linn Drive lot and walk up to the fields.  There will be limited handicapped parking in the Liberty Field lot with the proper tags.

As for seating, you can sit in the bleachers at Liberty and Freedom Fields, the new turf fields, or sit on the fields, but the latter only if you’re on a blanket or sand chairs. The town will not allow any four-legged chairs on the fields because they say they can damage the turf.

The Junior Woman’s Club will be selling food and refreshments at the concession stand, but no food or drinks will be allowed on the field.

The DJ entertainment will begin at 7 p.m. and the fireworks will start around 9:20 p.m.
