The Montclair Animal Shelter is regrouping after a fire seriously damaged its North Willow Street location on Sunday.
Carolyn Narepecha, a shelter volunteer from Verona who was part of the group that rescued dogs and cats from the building yesterday, has let us know that people can drop off supplies like pet food, water and blankets at the Montclair Ambulance unit at 95 Walnut Street. That’s just around the corner from the shelter. While the dogs and cats have been relocated to foster homes and other shelters, the Montclair Animal Shelter still needs to help with their care and it can’t get to any of its supplies.
The Friends of the Montclair Township Animal Shelter (FOMTAS) has also started an online fundraiser to cover short-term repairs that can get animals and staff back into its building and then a more extensive remodeling of the aged building. The campaign’s goal is $225,000. FOMTAS is a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit corporation so all donations are tax deductible. You can find the campaign on Fundly here.
Sean M. Spiller, Third Ward councilman for the Township of Montclair, posted the photo of the fire damage to his Twitter page.
