Spelling Bee Winners Head To District Bee

Stephanie Mutuku, Philip Konrad-Parisi and Julian Santarelli will be competing in the New Jersey State Federation of Women’s Clubs District Spelling Bee tomorrow, Saturday, February 20, in Summit.

The three students are, respectively the first, second and third place winners of the local spelling bee that was sponsored by the Junior Woman’s Club of Verona on January 30. Twenty-nine fourth and fifth grade students participated in the Verona bee, which was held at at F.N. Brown Elementary School.

The Verona Juniors would like to thank all of the children who participated in the Bee and the three judges, Rui M. Dionisio, superintendent of schools; Jeff Monacelli, principal of Forest Avenue Elementary School; and Corisa Walker, the library media specialist at F.N. Brown and Brookdale Schools.

The Junior Woman’s Club of Verona is a versatile organization that has been involved in social and charitable work since its inception in 1926. The Juniors address Verona’s diverse needs by promoting education, preserving natural resources, encouraging healthy lifestyles, working on behalf of the elderly and people with disabilities, supporting participation in the arts and advocating for issues of concern to women, children and families.
