Will the Talent Night lip sync battle between Principal Cogdill and Mr. Wertz be this epic?
Will the Talent Night lip sync battle between Principal Cogdill and Mr. Wertz be this epic?

The National Weather Service has issued a blizzard watch for our area, from 4 a.m. Saturday until noon Sunday, and that is bringing some changes to weekend activities in Verona.

Talent Night: The annual Talent Night organized by the Spotlight Players Parents Association has been postponed until next Saturday, January 30 at 7 p.m.  in the Verona High School auditorium. The SPPA is also telling us that your $5 ticket will enable you to see an “epic” lip sync battle, between VHS Principal Josh Cogdill and the high school’s resident computer science guru, Rich Wertz.

Project Graduation Fundraiser: The Chipotle fundraiser for Project Graduation 2016 has been rescheduled for next Saturday, January 30 from 12 to 3 p.m. at Chipotle’s West Caldwell store. If you buy food there then, a portion of your meal price will help defray the cost of a safe, alcohol-free celebration for the Class of 2016.

Sports: There was to have been a varsity hockey match at 9 p.m. tonight between VHS and Governor Livingston High School in Union, but that match has been postponed. No word yet on its new date. There are no VHS sports scheduled for Saturday, and Sunday’s 5 p.m. hockey game against Oratory Prep at Codey Arena is still on.

Recreation Department: All Rec programs and all basketball for Saturday have been cancelled. Call the department at 973-857-4830 if you have questions.

Spelling Bee:
The Junior Woman’s Club is postponing its Spelling Bee for fourth and fifth graders to next Saturday, January 30. The event will still take place at the F.N. Brown auditorium at 10 a.m.

Public School Buildings: If you were supposed to have an activity at any Verona public school on Saturday, make other plans. Superintendent Rui Dionisio has declared that they will all be closed.

Thrift Shop: First Presbyterian’s thrift shop will be closed on Saturday. It should re-open for business as usual on Tuesday from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Library: The Verona Public Library will be closed on Saturday. The memoir writing workshop with author Ann Anderson Evans that had been scheduled for Sunday, January 24, has been postponed until Sunday February 7 at 3 p.m.
