United Way Offers Free Computer Training, Resources

MicrosoftOfficeArea residents can learn valuable computer skills and information about critical community resources by attending two free United Way of Northern New Jersey events.

On Tuesday, October 20, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., locals can learn beginner and intermediate level tips using Microsoft Office suite by attending the first session of a free computer training series held by United Way and JVS of MetroWest New Jersey.

Subsequent workshops on Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook are scheduled from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. on October 27, November 3, 10, 17, and 24. Registration is required for all training sessions, which take place at the United Way building located at 60 South Fullerton Avenue in Montclair; community members are encouraged to attend at least two sessions. In addition, area residents can attend a free United Way community resource day that connects ALICE (Asset Limited, Income Constrained, Employed) and income-eligible individuals with local resources on Tuesday, November 10, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Also held at the United Way building, the resource day features representatives from local agencies and institutions who are available on a one-on-one basis to discuss food stamp applications, affordable child care, savings and budgeting plans, credit repair, foreclosure, local medical resources, affordable housing, and health insurance. The following agencies and institutions will be represented at the fair: Essex County Division of Welfare, Garden State Community Bank, HOMECorp., HomeSharing, Inc., Montclair Community Pre-K, Montclair Housing Authority, New Jersey Department of Human Services, Programs for Parents, and Zufall Health.

United Way provides education, training and referrals for services that support northern New Jersey families and individuals during tough times.
