Verona Voices, with members from around the West Essex area, will be holding an open house for prospective new members on Tuesday, September 8, at 7 p.m. in the Music Room of H.B. Whitehorne School in Verona. Light refreshments will be served. The first rehearsal of the season follows at 7:30.
The group is directed by Verona resident Denise Bastanza and accompanied by Montclair resident Helga Bartus. Bastanza returns as director for her fifteenth year, and was a singer with the chorus for several years before becoming director. Bartus returns for her third year.
A concert is planned at the Verona Community Center on Saturday, December 19 at 7:30 p.m. Ticket prices are $10, with a discounted price of $5 for seniors and students. Contact Verona Voices for group or hardship pricing.
The concert features a mix of winter, Christmas, and Hanukah music, performed in styles ranging from jazz, traditional, and classical. Selections include “Vivaldi’s Gloria,” “Light One Candle,” “Snowfall,” “S’vivon,” “Breath Of Heaven,” and many others.
In addition to the concert, there will be one or two benefit performances at facilities chosen from the West Essex area. The group has played in dozens of venues through the years, from Clifton to Rockaway.
The members are particularly excited to be performing at a wedding during the fall season.
Verona Voices is always looking for new singers. Those interested should come to the open house to meet with the members and director and learn more about the organization.
