Cole McConnachie graduated Verona High School with the class of 2015. The former volleyball and lacrosse player is now settling in at Georgetown University, and writing about another key Verona sport: football.
Her piece “Growing Up Where Football Is Everything“, was published this past week on Odyssey, a website for the Gen Z college crowd. In it, she reminisces about growing up with a love of football, and the camaraderie it creates in small towns:
“Football, in a lot of small towns like mine, is the heartbeat of the fall. And although football doesn’t completely dominate my small town as I’m sure it does in some small southern towns, it’s such a big part of fall life here. Whether it’s a football game played by the local youth, the high school team, the college players, or a professional team, football is uniting. Football, more than any other sport in America, brings people together.”
McConnachie is anticipating the start of football at Georgetown, which sports a Div I team. You can read the full piece, which includes a shout-out to the 2014 New Jersey state champs, here.
