For the past two years the residents of Newman Avenue have held a music-filled block party to honor local people and local causes. Newman Cares Blockfest is returning on Saturday, September 19 and it will be rocking to remember three community members who have passed away this year–Susan Niler, Joe Patti and Officer Ron Thorward of the Verona Police Department–and help St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
Newman Cares will run from 1 to 10 p.m. and the street will be closed from Cumberland Avenue to Wildwood Terrace to make room for the stage and all the food, coordinated by Chef Carmen Qualiata of New York City’s Union Square Café. There will be five to eight bands providing music all day long and lots of activities for kids. There is beer, wine and mixed drinks for guests over 21 (please bring your ID).
Tickets are $30 for adults 21 and over if you buy them online before the Blockfest. They will be $35 per person that day. The cost is $20 for those 13 to 20, and children ages 12 and younger are free. For more information or to buy tickets, go to www.newmancares.org or call
973-296-2937. If it rains on Saturday, Newman Cares Blockfest will be held on Sunday, September 20.
