LETTERS TO THE EDITOR
Dear Editor:

Please vote for Alex Roman and Michael Nochimson in the Verona Council Election on May 12th. Read about them at www.alexroman.net and www.nochimsonnow.com or contact them directly. They have thoughtful and specific plans for the future of Verona.

Alex Roman has attended and participated in council meetings for years. Professionally, Alex is a director of technology for a large radio broadcast company and he manages union and non-union employees, operating and capital budgets, physical plant maintenance, and large construction projects. He also handles commercial leases, contracts and regulatory compliance. Electing Alex is a great opportunity for our town to benefit from his experience.

Roman has identified over $800,000 in budget cuts without affecting Verona’s essential services. His analysis shows that Verona’s expenses increased at 3 times the rate of inflation since 2008 and that municipal debt service is up 42% over the same time period. He will work diligently to stabilize taxes, build responsible budgets, reduce municipal debt, institute fair hiring practices, while maintaining services. Roman has in-depth understanding of municipal finance and operations and will use that knowledge to put Verona on a stable path. Now is the time to put Roman in a decision-making position with Councilman Nochimson and Councilman Kevin Ryan.

As for incumbent Nochimson, examine his voting records and you will see that he has proven himself as fiscally responsible, along with Councilman Kevin Ryan. However, decisions of the council require at least a 3-2 majority and their goals are in the minority in the current council and town management. If Roman and Nochimson don’t win together and join Ryan on the council, it will simply be more of the same. Electing Roman and re-electing Nochimson will create a new majority concerned with maintaining and improving township services while spending every tax dollar wisely.

These men are highly qualified, intelligent and care deeply about our community and are committed to representing all residents.  They are also individuals in three different life stages (single, married with children at home, and retired/empty nest) and they approach issues from perspectives as diverse as our own town’s population. While, agreeing on many topics, they do not agree on all, which is beneficial because Verona needs checks and balances along with new and varying ideas. Now is the time to give them the ability to work together to make positive changes for Verona.
