On Saturday, January 31, 35 fourth and fifth graders gathered at F.N. Brown Elementary School to participate in the annual Spelling Bee sponsored by the Junior Woman’s Club of Verona. Congratulations to the winners: Evan Bannon (first place), Nick Handler (second place) and Zoriana Horodysky (third place).

Evan, Nick and Zoriana are now eligible to compete in the District Spelling Bee, sponsored by the New Jersey State Federation of Women’s Clubs, on Saturday, February 21, in Kearny.

The Verona Juniors would like to thank all of the children who participated in the Bee and the three judges, Mayor Robert Manley, Forest Avenue Elementary School Principal Jeffrey Monacelli and Elizabeth Giblin, president of the Verona Library Board of Trustees.

The Junior Woman’s Club of Verona is a versatile organization that has been involved in social and charitable work since its inception in 1926. The Juniors address Verona’s diverse needs by promoting education, preserving natural resources, encouraging healthy lifestyles, working on behalf of the elderly and people with disabilities, supporting participation in the arts and advocating for issues of concern to women, children and families.
