Fred-Hill-Baseball-RutgersThere’s a plan afoot for a baseball and softball training complex at Rutgers University to honor former RU Coach (and Verona resident) Fred Hill. This Thursday, January 29, there will be a cocktail reception at the Yogi Berra Museum to preview the plans for the Fred Hill Training Complex and start the fundraising.

Hill retired last year after 30 seasons as the head baseball coach at Rutgers University with a 941-658-7 record. While there, his teams made it to 11 NCAA regional playoffs and had 12 regular season conference championships and eight conference tournament titles. Early this month, the American Baseball Coaches Association inducted him into its Hall of Fame.

Thursday’s event will be at the Yogi Berra Museum and Learning Center, 8 Yogi Berra Drive, in Little Falls from 6 to 9 p.m., and it will feature both Hill, current Rutgers Head Baseball Coach Joe Litterio, and baseball letter-winners. Organizers are asking people to RSVP by contacting Lucy Cruz at 848-932-2292 or [email protected]. If you cannot attend and are interested in making a gift or learning more, please contact Doug Dolan at 848-932-2289 or [email protected] or Mike Melendez at 848-932-2293 or [email protected].
