Girls Track Takes 4th At SEC Championships

Both the Verona High School girls and boys track teams had successful performances at the SEC Track & Field Championships at the Jersey City Armory on Saturday, December 27. The girls finished fourth of 14 teams while the boys got seventh in field of 15 teams.

Maggie Ashley, a freshman, stepped on the track for her first individual track competition and won the 400m in 61.3. She returned later in the competition to get third in the 800m at 2:36.6.

Jessica Williams was sixth in 55m high hurdles.

Michaela Fogarty got second in pole vault with a 7′ jump. Jessica Williams was sixth in 55m high hurdles at 9.95. Alex Luehs and Cianna Winkler tied for sixth in high jump at 4’3″.

Chris Yeates got third in the 55m at 6.83.

On the boys side, Christian Grund had a shot-put throw of 41’8″ to get second place. Chris Yeates got third in the 55m at 6.83, while Matt Intili was fifth in the 400m with a time of 54.6.
