The Verona Environmental Commission will be at Fair in the Square on Saturday, December 6, with demonstrations on making ornaments from recycled materials, pinecone bird feeders and setting up a backyard composter.
The composting demonstrations will be at 12:30, 1:30, 2:30 and 3:30 p.m. Learn how to successfully make compost, a great natural plant fertilizer. Home composting is one of the easiest things that you can do to significantly reduce the amount of waste you produce: 25% of your household trash can be composted!
Also, the Commission will have 2 activities for children. They can make Snowflake Ornaments from plastic bottles (and learn how to reduce plastic waste) and make pinecone bird feeders. These feeders will help local birds in the winter, when food is hard to find.
Children will be able to take their ornaments and bird feeders home. In addition the commission will provide residents with brochures about two topics: backyard composting and New Jersey common birds.
