Spring volunteers planted a dozen new native trees and shrubs in the Peckman Woods.
This spring, the Verona Environmental Commission led a group of more than 40 volunteers in cleaning, planting and watering in the woods behind F.N. Brown elementary school. Now, the VEC needs volunteers for some fall maintenance of the Peckman Woods Trail.

The fall clean-up will be held on Sunday, September 28, from 9 a.m. to noon. Volunteers should bring gardening tools, wear gardening gloves and gather by the trail sign at the far side of the school field. Walk-ins are welcome, or you can register by sending an email to [email protected] .

Earlier this year, the VEC got a $1,400 grant from ANJEC, the Association of New Jersey Environmental Commissions, to preserve the Peckman trail but that grant must be matched by volunteer hours. Any time you can give will count toward that match.

To enjoy the woods at any time, download this trail map prepared by the VEC. You can also follow the VEC on Facebook or on Twitter.
