Fred-Hill-Baseball-RutgersRutgers baseball will honor the legendary career of coach Fred Hill, a long-time Verona resident, in a ceremony scheduled prior to the May 10 game versus USF at Bainton Field. The program will retire his No. 24 as part of the festivities.

“Coach Hill had a tremendous impact during his 30 years at Rutgers,” head coach Joe Litterio said. “He has been a mentor to me and to so many who have had the privilege of playing for him. We hope to have a great turnout for the ceremony, which should be a memorable day.”

All alumni and friends of the program are invited to attend, with a pregame gathering set for noon. The ceremony is scheduled to begin around 12:20 p.m. and will also include speeches from Litterio and Glen Gardner. Hill will throw out the ceremonial first pitch.

Hill’s number will become the second retired in program history, joining Jeff Torborg’s No. 10. The veteran mentor earned 941 victories during his 30 seasons in Piscataway, the most of any coach in any sport in the history of Rutgers Athletics. Click here to read more on Hill.
