Prout Funeral Home

PROUTFounded in 1924 by Michael C. Prout, this full-service funeral home is currently owned and supervised by second generation Frank M. Prout and third generation Robert J. Prout and his wife, Meg. It is one of the oldest family owned businesses in Verona. The firm was recognized by the state of New Jersey as the 2007 Clean Energy Small Business of the Year for its use of solar electric and efforts in conservation education. They were the first funeral home in New Jersey and one of the first in the nation to be certified by the Green Burial Council, and the first funeral home in the nation to receive the Green Funeral Practices Award from the National Funeral Directors Association.

Its present director, Bob Prout, has given back to the community of Verona his entire life. As a member of the Boy Scouts of America since 1964, he has served as Assistant Scoutmaster of Verona Troop 2 since 1976, and Treasurer since 1991.

As a current member of the Verona Shade Tree Commission since 1979, Bob held positions Chairman until 1985, and Secretary from 1985 – 1996, and again from 2012 till present. Mr. Prout also contributed to his community as a member of the Verona Beautification committee from 1979 till 2000.
