Dino’s Verona Barber Shop
Dino DiTizii emigrated from Italy in January of 1962. Within a month of coming to the United States he was working as a barber in Verona. Since that time, Dino estimates that over the 52 years he’s been here in Verona, plus the 10 years he cut hair in Italy, he has given close to 400,000 haircuts. When he first started cutting hair he charged $1.00 per cut for adults and 75¢ for children, and still, even by today’s standards he’s still very reasonably priced.
Dino and Vincenzina, (Vinnie) his wife of 47 years, have 2 boys, John and Silvio, and 3 grandchildren, Michael, Alexandra and Alonso. Lining his counters are photographs of local celebrities whose hair he has cut such as: Jay Mohr, and hockey players Bobby Holik and John MacLean. There’s even a picture of him drinking out of the Stanley Cup. (He says he was just pretending…) He takes pride in the fact that he has cut 4 generations of hair in some of his families. When asked why he continues to cut hair he replied “It’s a pleasant job, I’m always busy and I’ve become like family to most of my customers”. On May 5 he will turn 77 years young…and he has no plans of retiring any time soon.
