Our Lady of the Lake’s third annual Oktoberfest will be held on Saturday, October 13 from 6 to 11 p.m. As many as 2,000 people will gather under the big tent on the parish grounds at Montrose Avenue and Hill Street in Verona for a celebration offering traditional German food (with various wursts, pulled pork, roast turkey, potato salad and German chocolate cake among the treats), craft beers, wine, a variety of non-alcoholic drinks, live music and entertainment, raffles and an extensive tricky tray. A ceremonial keg-tapping kicks off the evening.

Tickets for Oktoberfest are $60 per person through September 23 and $70 per person beginning September 24. Remaining tickets, if any, will be available at the door for $75 per person.

Tickets can be ordered online at the special secure Oktoberfest Web site or purchased at the Our Lady of the Lake Rectory (973-239-5696) during weekday business hours or after all masses on Saturday evenings and Sunday mornings. A limited number of reserved tables for 10 are available as well.

Also back this year under the big tent will be Kinderfest, which takes place on Friday, October 12 from 4 to 9 p.m. Admission is free, and there will be amusements, live music and fun for the whole family. Family-friendly food will be available for purchase from local restaurants. Tickets can be purchased at Kinderfest for rides, attractions, crafts and carnival games. The big dunk tank will be featured again! Each event goes on rain or shine!

Proceeds from Oktoberfest and Kinderfest benefit Our Lady of the Lake’s continuing outreach programs, including its very popular high school Youth Program, and support Our Lady of the Lake’s 2011 National Blue Ribbon elementary school. The Our Lady of the Lake Youth Program undertakes many service projects throughout the local community and beyond. Our Lady of the Lake School draws students from throughout suburban Essex County and offers Pre-K3, Pre-K4, full-day Kindergarten and grades one through eight.
