UPDATE Monday, 3 P.M.: Montclair Police say they have gotten calls that a bear cub is on Myrtle Avenue. The cub had also been seen on the grounds of the Montclair Art Museum.

Cedar Grove police have sent out a Nixle alert that they are monitoring a black bear cub on Fairview Avenue.

The alert, which went out about 10 minutes ago, did not say where on Fairview the cub was. A black bear cub had been spotted on Evergreen Drive in North Caldwell earlier this afternoon. If it’s the same one, the alert means that he or she has done a good three-mile hike up and over the Hilltop.

It goes without saying that, if you see the bear, keep your distance. This is not Disney. The Cedar Grove Police have posted some bear safety tips. You can read them here.
