Once upon a time, church cookbooks were a staple of any community. The Verona United Methodist Church is hoping they can be again.

Founded in 1833, the church is publishing a cookbook to celebrate its 180th year of service and to help with needed repairs to the dome and other restoration work. In February 2012, the Verona Town Council designated the current church building as a town landmark. It was built in 1909 and is a so-called Akron Plan structure, which means that some of the interior walls can be raised or lowered with pulleys to change how much space is available for worship or Sunday school classes. Windows in the church have been tentatively attributed to the workshop of Louis Comfort Tiffany.

The cookbook features recipes contributed by parishioners and friends, as well as recipes from many past members of the church and menus from some of the very first socials held in the church over 100 years ago. It will be printed as a hard-cover book with what cookbook organizer Dee Dee Carpinelli is promising will be “lots of extras”.

The Methodist church will be sending its cookbook to press on May 15 and the delivery of the books will be mid-July. You can order your copy now by downloading this form.
