It was a packed afternoon for Verona sports on Thursday. Six Verona High School teams were in action, and three came away with improved records. The track teams were in dual meets against Orange and Weequahic. The girls squad beat Orange 115-19 but lost to Weequahic 78-62, advancing their record to 3-1 in dual meets. The teams head to the Pawlowski Relays in Ridgewood on Saturday and face Bloomfield next Tuesday.
Sophomore Jackie Brozyna led the girls lacrosse team to a 15-7 victory over Cranford at Centennial, scoring four goals. Olivia Marino and Casie Milmoe were right behind with three apiece.
The golf team improved its record to 3-1 after a key conference victory over Caldwell, 171-172. The duffers were moved up to the highest division of the Super Essex Conference this year, which will pit Verona against teams such as Montclair Kimberley Academy, Livingston, Seton Hall, Newark Academy, Millburn and Caldwell.

The Hillbilly baseball team dropped to 0-3 after a 6-2 away game loss to Mountain Lakes. Mike Coppola had two hits, while Tom DeNicola, Matt McKeown, Matt Rubins and Luke Weiss each had one. Luke Sniatkowski and Jon Tosh, who was also on the mound yesterday, each got an RBI. The team is home against Butler at 4 p.m. today.
Bloomfield pitched a no-hitter to blank the Hillbilly softball team 8-0 on the Verona girls’ home field. Mountain Lakes washed out the boys tennis team 5-0. The team travels to Nutley today.
