To celebrate Earth Day, the Verona Environmental Commission will be organizing a cleanup of the Peckman River behind F.N. Brown school and a tributary that runs next to Brookdale Avenue school on Sunday, April 14.
The VEC will be at F.N. Brown from 9 to 11 a.m.. and volunteers should meet at the woods’ entrance behind the playground. The activity shifts to Brookdale from 1 to 3 p.m. Meet by the field.
The goal is to help keep the river clean by removing trash and debris in these areas. Wear long pants, long sleeves and gloves. Children must be with an adult. Verona High School juniors filling community service hours welcome. To sign-up please e-mail Kerry Bass.
The VEC is also looking for new members to join the commission. Its members have come from a variety of different backgrounds over the years including science, engineering, education, real estate, law and horticulture. The VEC meets once a month on the third Wednesday of the month, from 7:30 to 9 p.m. at the Verona Community Center. If you would like to join, send an e-mail to VEC Chairman Jerry Shimonaski.
