Girls Track Breaks Record At State Relays

The Verona High School girls winter track team broke a school record at the state Group 1 Relay Championships at the Bennett Center in Toms River on Sunday.

The team finished seventh overall in a field of more than 40 teams. The distance medley team of Amanda Flores, Sarah Conboy, Kelsey Attamante and Melanie Egan began the the competition with a fourth place place finish with a 13:32.8 performance. Gabriela Mercurio and Jordan Seubert placed fourth in the pole vault with respective jumps of 8’6″ and 8′.

The 4 x 800m team of Attamante, Conboy, Flores and Egan finished fifth with a time of 10: 23. The shuttle hHurdle team of Laura Williams, Sarah Conboy, Jessica Williams and Marybeth Grund recorded a sixth place finish at a 36.02. Jasmine Okafor and Laura Williams finished eighth in the high jump with respective jumps of 4’8″ and 4’6″.

The 4 x 200m relay of Colleen Farrell, Jordan Seubert, Emilia Frizzi and Julia Ashley finished with a 1:56. The shot put team of Diana Moczula and Christina Carlucci had throws of 26’9′ and 21’11”.

The sprint medley team of Marybeth Grund, Colleen Farrell, Laura Williams and Julia Ashley ended the day setting a new school record, finishing fourth with a time of 4:23.8. The previous school record set in 2004 was 4:40.8.
