Believe it or not, it is the 30th anniversary of the release of E.T. The Extra-Terrestrial. The Newark Museum is marking the milestone with several screenings of the movie and some other special events.
The movie will be shown at 2 p.m. on November 11, 17, 18, 23 and 25, and the movie is free with regular museum admission. The first 100 museum visitors each day will receive special E.T. collectibles on November 23, 24 and 25.
Through November 25, you can see Bell Labs’ exact replica of the “phone” used on the original movie set. On Saturday, November 17, at 1, 2 and 3 p.m., kids can design and take home their own “Phone Home” device that lights up and buzzes messages to the stars. Workshop participants discover the science behind creating circuits and conducting electricity using hand-made insulating and conductive play dough. Pre-registration is required; call 973.596.6606. Space is limited to 20 kids per workshop. Electronic kits are also available for purchase to take home.
And if you want to explore the galaxies that E.T. called home, there are constellation shows at the Museum’s Planetarium on Wednesdays through Sundays.
See this page for more details on all the activities.
