Verona is reopening its public schools on Monday, November 5, with all schools on a half-day schedule on Monday and Tuesday. All schools except F.N. Brown have power and if your kids normally go to Brown, you will have the biggest changes.

Laning, Brookdale, Forest and H.B. Whitehorne Middle School will operate on a regular half-day schedule 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.
Verona High School’s half-day schedule 7:55 a.m. to 12:08 p.m. Both VHS and HBW will have their regular zero-period classes. The district says that food service will not operate until further notice, so make sure kids bring a snack.

F.N. Brown will hold school at Laning from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Brown parents can drop off their children no earlier than 10:45 a.m. and there will also be a bus from F.N. Brown to Laning at 10:45 a.m. If you are driving from the Brown district, you’ll need to drive up Claremont to Elmwood and turn left on Laning. The top part of Linden remains closed as of Sunday afternoon, as is Elmwood Road from Linden to Beach. Verona Police officers will be directing traffic at Laning.

Laning preschool will operate on a regular half-day schedule. The AM schedule runs 8:30 to 10:15 a.m. and the PM schedule from 10:30 a.m. to 12:15 a.m. Students in Mrs. Grace’s have school from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Drop off is at the Elk Road entrance via Otsego Road.

Aftercare will be available at Laning from the YMCA until 6 p.m. YMCA Aftercare will operate a regular schedule for people who are already signed up. If you would like to sign up for Tuesday, the school district is asking you to do so at your school or at the Montclair YMCA. You can also do so online.

Superintendent Steven A. Forte says in his email that, “While the heat is working, the buildings make be a little chilly please have your children bring a sweatshirt.”

The school Halloween celebrations are cancelled.

  1. And we are lucky to have you too! Is there a local website journalism award that would be on par with the Nobel? Because if there is, I’m nominating you! You’ve done such a great job during such a crappy time.

  2. Can anyone clarify are we having Halloween trick or treating in Verona Monday night? There has been no update about it. Thanks!
