Today is “Walk To School” day in Verona. It’s a charming activity that should remind students and parents how close the average Verona school is to the average Verona home. But for some kids, every day is a walk to school day. A time to take in the streetscape and a bit of Verona history. The lovely porch you can see in this photo belongs to the so-called Priest Farm Homestead at 110 Claremont Avenue, built perhaps as early as 1750. And if George Washington didn’t sleep here, he maybe came close. Verona’s town Web site says of the house that, “There seems little doubt that Washington and Lafayette traveled past the original portion of the old house on their way from Cranetown to Morristown during the Revolutionary Period. ” The house and the walker are today’s “Verona View”.
