Jack Denton, a freshman at The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, has made the Dean’s List for the fall semester. Denton, who graduated Verona High School with the Class of 2011, had a 3.94 grade point average.

Students are eligible for the list if they earn at least a 3.2 grade-point-average on a 4.0 scale while taking 15 or more letter-grade credit hours. They are also eligible if they earn a 3.5 grade-point-average while taking at least 12 letter-grade credit hours. Students must have no grades lower than a “C.” On a 4.0 scale, “A” equals 4, “B” equals 3 and “C” equals 2.

The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill appears on more than 20 national lists of schools, programs and specialty areas newly ranked for 2011 by U.S. News and World Report for the 2012 edition of “America’s Best Graduate Schools.” It is ranked first among the 100 U.S. public colleges and universities that offer students high-quality academics at an affordable price as ranked by Kiplinger’s Personal Finance magazine. In the fall of 2011, UNC enrolled 4,026 first-year students from a record 23,753 applications. Eighty percent graduated in the top 10% of their high school class, and they posted an average 1300 on the SAT.
