The Verona-Glen Ridge Hockey team ended its four-game winning streak with a 5-3 loss on Friday night against Seton Hall Prep in the holiday tournament cup game.

Seton Hall was the first to put a goal on the board; however with two quick goals from Verona freshman Jake Paganelli and sophomore Dylan DeCandia, VGR went into the locker room at the end of the first period with a 2-1 lead.

Seton Hall Prep’s Zack Potten had four goals in the game, including an empty netter in the last minute of play in the game. He also had the first goal of the second period, which was answered less than thirty seconds later by Paganelli. This was Paganelli’s second of the night.

At the end of the second period, the score was tied 3-3. The third period was all Seton Hall and tensions started to boil over on the ice as some fighting broke out. In the end, Seton Hall came out on top.

VGR goaltender Matt Brehne saved 20 of 25 shots, while the SHP goaltender Matt Manley saved 20 of 23.

VGR continues its  regular season games on Friday December 6 against Livingston at Codey Arena at 6:45 p.m.
