Verona Kids Win County Gingerbread Contest

Cub Scout Den 5-Pack 32 took second place in the Group/Family category of the Essex County Environmental Center’s Seventh Annual Essex County Gingerbread Homes and Habitats Contest. Ron Arias and Andrew Hunt are pictured above with Essex County Executive Joseph N. DiVincenzo, Jr.; Josh Salerno also worked on the entry.

There were more honors for Verona scouts. Brownie Troop 21221-Group #6 members took third place in the Group/Family category. That’s troop members Lauren Kobernick and Sabrina Farro with DiVincenzo below. Brownies Alyssa Casalino and Grace Madigan also worked on the house.

Entries were judged on distinctiveness, creative use of nature theme, use of “green” building design techniques and skill in decoration. Awards were presented on Saturday, December 17, at the Environmental Center, which is located in Roseland. (Photos by Glen Frieson)
