Bucknell University has announced that Meghan Fitzpatrick, a 2009 graduate of Verona High School, has been named to the Capital One Academic All-District 2 Second Team. To be eligible for Academic All-America honors, a student-athlete must have a minimum 3.3 cumulative GPA and be a starter or key reserve on his/her team.

According to Bucknell, Fitzpatrick has a 3.98 GPA, the highest on the team. She has made the Dean’s List every semester so far, and she was selected for the prestigious Institute for Leadership in Technology and Management (ILTM) program, through which she participated in management consulting projects for General Electric, The Hershey Company and Ollie’s Bargain Outlet. Fitzpatrick, a marketing major, also completed an externship with Schwartz and Hunter law firm in 2011, and she served as vice president for human resources for her student management company.

Fitzpatrick returned to the Bucknell women’s soccer team this year after missing all of her first two seasons due to injury. This fall she started eight games on defense before being sidelined by another injury. While on the field she was a key contributor on a team that allowed only 19 goals this season, the second-fewest in program history.
