Coach Bob Ditrani’s C-Team Eagles pushed their record to 5-1 with a 19-6 win over Cedar Grove in the annual Mayor’s Trophy game this past Sunday.
The Eagles started quickly when Shane Lawless recovered an onside kick on the game’s opening play. Zander Zebrowski and Frankie Riggio provided explosive running behind the lead blocking of Andrew Emanuilidis, Robert Sposato, Clay Gresham and Brian McKeen. The opening drive concluded with the first of three Zebrowski touchdowns.
The Eagles scored on their second possession taking to the air as Jake McConnachie made a nifty grab along the sidelines for a gain of 15 and Nicky Gonzalez hauled in a bomb of 30 yards. At the half the Eagles led 13-0.
Cedar Grove refused to go away and cut the Eagles lead to 13-6 in the third period. From there, the Eagles defense flexed its muscle as Isaac Skrivanik, Christian Dionisio, Jake Milmoe, Ryan Stanisci and Richard DiGeronimo spent much of the time in the Cedar Grove backfield tackling the ball carriers. Patrick Yeates made a key tackle on fourth down to seal the 19-6 victory.
The C-Team looks to improve to 6-1 this Saturday away against Florham Park.
