Hockey Season Ends On A Loss

The Verona Glen Ridge hockey team ended their season Sunday night with a 4-1 loss to Brick in the quarterfinal round of the Public B conference playoffs.

The first goal of the game was scored by junior Matt Lander of Glen Ridge with about six minutes left in the second period. Seniors and Co-captains Nick Martell and Alekos Polis assisted the goal.

Heading into the third period, VGR had a 1-0 lead. However, Brick scored four unanswered goals to secure the victory. VGR goaltender Matt Brehne stopped 30 of Brick’s 34 shots.

VGR had a successful season with first year head coach Andor Kish. They finished out the season with an 18-6-3 record and were first in the NJIHL Central Conference.
