If you’re planning a staycation for the coming long weekend and you have scouts in the family, you should know about what’s being planned at the Essex County Environmental Center.
On November 4 and 5, there will be activities at the Environmental Center exclusively for scouts, the boys on the 4th and the girls on the 5th. The activities run from 10:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. each day and do not award pins or badges.
The boys program, which is open to Wolf and Bear cubs, begins with American Indian lore for the Wolf Cubs and Nature Crafts for the Bears. The Wolves will learn about birds after lunch, while the Bears will focus on American Indian Life.
The girls program is open to Brownies and Juniors. The Brownies will open their day with a program called Earth is Our Home and do the Center’s Eco-Explorer program after lunch. The Juniors’ program includes Water Wonders and Outdoor Creativity.
The cost is $6 per child per class, and the kids must bring their own lunch. The Center says that everyone should dress for the weather because the kids will be spending time outside. Space is limited, so you must register in advance by calling 973-228-8776.
